FoWY Funds Wide Range of Programs for the 2020–2021 School Year

Each year, through the generous financial contributions from parents, alum, friends and neighbors, Friends of Whitney Young provides needed funding to a wide variety of programs in academics, arts, and athletics as well as some critical capital needs. None of these programs receive funding support from CPS. Additionally, FoWY funds other important community events around the school such as Teacher Appreciation Day, Hot Topics and Coffee with Kenner. The Campaign for Whitney Young reached its goal this year of $500,000 and we funded the resurfacing of our tennis courts. In addition, this year our community needs expanded because of COVID, remote learning and a focus on DEI at Whitney Young. Therefore Friends was called upon to provide funding for remote learning technology, virtual Open House, care packages, specialty professional development and to provide support for three teachers to become DEI coordinators at Whitney Young. Over $300,000 was allocated to these programs and projects this year and it could not have happened with you!
