BOARD COMMITTEES

Friends of Whitney Young operates through six standing Board Committees — Grants, Fundraising, Community, Communications, Events, and Nominations — each led by a volunteer Chair who reports into the Board and oversees a set of specific programs and initiatives within their focus area. This structure allows FoWY to distribute leadership across key functions while maintaining clear accountability for each initiative, from fundraising campaigns to community events to grant cycles.

The overarching goal of this committee structure is simple: to organize FoWY's volunteer efforts in a way that directly and efficiently supports the students, families, faculty, and administration of Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. Each committee's work ultimately ladders up to the same mission — whether that's raising funds through the Fundraising Committee, strengthening relationships through the Community Committee, ensuring effective outreach through the Communications Committee, or securing the next generation of Board leadership through the Nominations Committee. By empowering dedicated chairs to own their respective areas, FoWY is able to operate with agility, sustain institutional knowledge, and continue expanding its impact on the Whitney Young community year over year.
